Use the following guidance when ForeFlight Mobile Clearance cannot complete a request or maintain an ATC session. When the issue cannot be resolved, use standard ATC voice communication procedures.
Unable to Request a Clearance
Verify the following conditions:
- The flight plan was filed through ForeFlight and accepted by the FAA.
- The departure airport supports ForeFlight Mobile Clearance.
- The aircraft is on the ground and within the supported airport area.
- The device has an active internet connection.
- The request is being made from 30 minutes before estimated time of departure through 105 minutes after estimated time of departure.
- The flight plan is not identified as a duplicate.
Flight Plan is not Found
Confirm that the correct flight is open and that the flight plan has been accepted by the FAA. When the issue continues, contact ATC using standard voice communication procedures.
Duplicate Flight Detected
Remove or modify the duplicate flight plan, then submit the clearance request again.
Clearance Request Expired
Submit a new clearance request. When requests continue to expire, contact ATC by voice.
A clearance delivery transaction remains active for six minutes. A new request may be required when no response is submitted before the transaction expires.
ATC Session Ended Unexpectedly
Attempt to restore the session as follows:
- Open the applicable flight in the Flights view.
- Tap Start, View, or Retry, whichever is available.
- Tap Request Clearance, when available.
An outstanding clearance may reappear after the session is restored. When the session cannot be re-established, obtain the clearance by voice.
Contact Me Message Received
Complete the following actions:
- Review the message.
- Tap Acknowledge.
- Contact ATC using the published frequency or telephone number provided, when applicable.
Acknowledging the message records the action in the History Log but does not replace the requirement to contact ATC.
ForeFlight Mobile Clearance Unavailable
Verify the internet connection and service status. Availability may also be affected by airport participation, FAA service availability, flight plan eligibility, maintenance, or a temporary service interruption.
When the feature remains unavailable, continue using standard ATC voice communication procedures.
