ForeFlight Mobile Clearance allows an IFR departure clearance to be requested, received, reviewed, and accepted or rejected electronically while the aircraft is on the ground at a participating airport. The feature supplements standard ATC voice communication and does not replace it.
The basic workflow is as follows:
- File the IFR flight plan through ForeFlight.
- Confirm that the flight plan has been accepted by the FAA.
- Open the flight in the Flights view.
- Tap Start, then tap Request Clearance.
- Wait for ATC to issue the clearance.
- Tap View Clearance and Respond when the clearance becomes available.
- Review the clearance limit, route, altitude, departure frequency, transponder code, and remarks.
- Tap Accept or Reject before the transaction expires.
After Accept is selected, the response is recorded in the History Log, and the accepted clearance remains available for review. If Reject is selected, contact ATC using standard voice communication procedures.
ForeFlight Mobile Clearance is available only when the flight is eligible, the departure airport participates in the program, internet connectivity is available, and the request is made from 30 minutes before estimated time of departure through 105 minutes after estimated time of departure.
Use standard ATC voice communication when the service is unavailable, a transaction expires, a clearance is rejected, connectivity is lost, clarification is required, or a Contact Me message is received.
