A YFR flight plan is a composite flight plan where the flight initially will be operated under IFR, followed by one or more changes of flight rules. This article will demonstrate how to create a YFR flight with the following route that starts as an IFR flight plan and changes to VFR at EPL:
(LFPM) (TRO4E.TRO) (Y112) (RESPO)(EPL) [Change to VFR] (LFSE)
IMPORTANT: YFR and ZFR Flight Plans are not supported in the USA.
Create a Composite Flight on the Maps View
To create the example YFR flight plan above on the Maps view, follow these steps:
STEP 1: Tap on Maps to open the Maps view.
STEP 2: Tap FPL to open the FPL viewer.
STEP 3: Tap Edit in the FPL Editor.
STEP 4: Enter the route waypoints up to the point prior to where the flight rule will change.
In this example, enter:
STEP 5: Enter the transition waypoint followed by a slash (/), and then āNā followed by the true airspeed in knots as a four-digit value.
In this example, the route is now:
NOTE: The TAS must be four digits long. For example, a TAS of 220 knots is entered as N0220.
STEP 6: Enter the new flight rule as a waypoint entry. When Return is selected on the keyboard, VFR merges into the Waypoint bubble.
In this example, the route is now:
STEP 7: Enter the remainder of the route to the destination.
In this example, the final route is:
STEP 8: Select the Send To button (square with an up arrow).
STEP 9: Select Flights.
STEP 10: Change the Flight Rules (VFR or IFR) to Y (IFR to VFR).
STEP 11: If filing in Europe, ensure that the route is Eurocontrol valid.
STEP 12: Complete the rest of the form.
STEP 13: Select Proceed to File to review and file the flight plan.
Create a Composite Flight on the Flights View
To create a YFR flight plan on the Flights view, follow these steps:
STEP 1: Tap on Flights to open the Flights view.
STEP 2: Select the [+] button to add a new flight.
STEP 3: Enter the Departure airport.
STEP 4: Enter the Destination airport.
STEP 5: Complete the information up to the Route section.
STEP 6: Change the Flight Rules to Y (IFR to VFR).
STEP 7: Enter the route waypoints up to the point prior to where the flight rule will change.
In this example, enter:
STEP 8: Enter the transition waypoint followed by a slash (/), and then āNā followed by the true airspeed in knots as a 4-digit value.
