Stadium TFRs (Sporting Event TFRs) appear on the Maps page when the TFRs layer is enabled. These TFRs require an internet connection to view, but they can be available offline if packed before a flight. They are not broadcast over ADS-B. However, if the TFRs are packed before flight, they will still show even if connected to an ADS-B receiver in flight.
The FAA defines Stadium TFRs in FDC NOTAM 0/367. The FAA does not publish individual Stadium TFRs. To help pilots comply with the TFR, ForeFlight monitors schedules for MLB, NFL, NCAA Football, Indy Car, NASCAR Sprint Cup, and Champ series events and adds those events as Stadium TFRs to the Maps view three days before each event. Stadium TFRs are shown in red or yellow based on the following criteria:
- Red: Active or will activate within the next 8 hours.
- Yellow: Inactive for at least the next 8 hours.
Per FDC NOTAM 0/367, the active time of Stadium TFRs is set to begin 1 hour before the event's scheduled start time. Stadium TFRs have a 6-hour duration.
Viewing Stadium TFRs
The TFR layer displays each Stadium TFR, and when tapped, an event description is provided. To view Stadium TFRs, do the following:
STEP 1. Go to the Maps view.
STEP 2. Tap on the drop-down menu in the upper left.
STEP 3. Select TFRs from the overlay options.
Tap a Stadium TFR shape to reveal a sidebar with information about the TFR, including the event description, start time of the event, active times for the TFR (blue text), and the event source (SeatGeek).
TFR TIPS
- Multiple TFRs: If multiple TFRs overlap, tap the individual TFR in the list in the sidebar to view details for an individual TFR.
- Non-Graphical TFRs: Non-Stadium TFRs without FAA graphical shapes may not appear on the map but can be found under Airports > NOTAM > TFR/ARTCC.
- Preflight Briefing: For comprehensive TFR information (including Stadium TFRs for VFR flights), review TFRs by getting a ForeFlight Graphical Briefing.
