To determine the correct model or type designation for filing a flight plan with ForeFlight:
- Use ForeFlight's search feature to find the type designation when creating a new aircraft profile. The search field is in ForeFlight Mobile under Aircraft > [+] > Aircraft Type.
- Check the ICAO Aircraft Type Designator online via the ICAO Aircraft Type Designator Search Page.
For Experimental aircraft without a unique designation, use the ICAO designator "ZZZZ" and include a description of the type in the Remarks section.
For specific aircraft categories, use the following ICAO designators:
- BALL – Balloon
- GLID – Glider/sailplane
- GYRO – Micro-/ultra-light gyrocopter
- SHIP – Airship
- UAUH – Micro-/ultra-light autonomous unmanned helicopter
- UAUL – Micro-/ultra-light autonomous unmanned aircraft
- UHEL – Micro-/ultra-light helicopter
- ULAC – Micro-/ultra-light aircraft
- UOPH – Micro-/ultra-light optionally piloted helicopter
- UOPL – Micro-/ultra-light optionally piloted aircraft
- URPH – Micro-/ultra-light remotely piloted helicopter
- URPL – Micro-/ultra-light remotely piloted aircraft
