Not all airports that provide METAR, AWOS, or ASOS reports have their weather data broadcast via ADS-B. Only specific airports are included in the FAA's ADS-B network for weather dissemination. Consequently, some airports' weather information may not be accessible when relying on ADS-B In.
Additionally, METAR availability depends on the range of the ADS-B tower being received. Each tower tier has a specific look-ahead range:
- Surface Radios: 100 NM look-ahead range.
- Low Altitude Tier: 250 NM look-ahead range.
- Medium Altitude Tier: 375 NM look-ahead range.
- High Altitude Tier:
- Within CONUS: Includes Class B & C airport METARs and a 500 NM look-ahead range.
- Outside CONUS: 500 NM look-ahead range.
