ADS-B In receivers are generally not able to obtain ADS-B weather information while on the ground due to to the inability to receive ground stations while on the ground. Therefore, unless there is an ADS-B station on the ground at the airport, altitude will be needed to begin receiving ADS-B broadcasts. One thousand feet AGL is usually sufficient but is still dependent on the proximity to the ADS-B ground stations and terrain in the area.
