VFR (Visual Flight Rules) and IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) are used globally. The rules are used as follows:
- VFR: Select if the entire flight is under VFR.
- IFR: Select if the entire flight is under IFR.
YFR and ZFR flight plans, supported in regions like Europe (not the USA), handle rule changes within a single flight plan. The rules are used as follows:
- YFR: Starts under IFR, with a planned switch to VFR.
- ZFR: Starts under VFR, with a planned switch to IFR.
If switching between VFR and IFR mid-flight in the USA, it is recommended that separate flight plans be filed for each segment.
