This guide is for troubleshooting issues seeing GPS position in ForeFlight Mobile when using an internal (to the iPad or iPhone) GPS receiver.
STEP 1: Enable Location Services
- Open the iPad or iPhone Settings App.
- Select Privacy & Security in the left-hand column.
- Tap Location Services.
- Ensure Location Services is on (green).
- Scroll down and tap on ForeFlight.
- Select Always.
If the settings are correct, proceed to the next step.
STEP 2: Enable Precise Location
- Open the iPad or iPhone Settings App.
- Select Privacy & Security in the left-hand column.
- Scroll down and tap on ForeFlight.
- Ensure Precise Location is on (green).
If the setting is correct, proceed to the next step.
STEP 3: Verify Date, Time, and Timezone Settings
- Open the iPad or iPhone Settings App.
- Tap General.
- Tap Date & Time.
- Ensure Set Automatically is turned on (green).
If the setting is correct, proceed to the next step.
STEP 4: Enable Ownship
- Open ForeFlight Mobile.
- Go to More.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll towards the bottom and tap Enable Ownship.
- Select Always.
If the setting is correct, proceed to the next step.
STEP 5: Ensure Unobstructed Sky View
Ensure the iPad or iPhone is in a location with a clear sky view.
If the condition is met, proceed to the next step.
STEP 6: Test GPS Functionality in Other Apps
- Open the iPad Settings App.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Turn the switch off next to Wi-Fi.
- Open another GPS-dependent app, like GPS Device Data or Apple Maps.
- Verify if GPS data is displayed.
If other apps are receiving GPS data, proceed to the next step.
Step 7: Restart ForeFlight Mobile
- Restart ForeFlight Mobile by opening the App Switcher.
- Swipe up on the ForeFlight Mobile app.
- Reopen ForeFlight Mobile.
If the issue remains, proceed to the next step.
STEP 8: Reboot with Cellular Data Off
- Open the iPad or iPhone Settings App.
- Select Cellular or Cellular Data.
- Turn off Cellular or Cellular Data in Settings.
- Restart the iPad using the steps in either Force restart iPad or Force restart iPhone.
Restart ForeFlight. - Open the iPad or iPhone Settings App.
- Select Cellular or Cellular Data.
- Turn on Cellular or Cellular Data in Settings.
If the issue remains, proceed to the next step.
STEP 8: Reset Location & Privacy Settings
- Open the iPad or iPhone Settings App.
- Select General.
- Select Transfer or Reset [device].
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Reset Location & Privacy.
If the issue remains, proceed to the next step.
STEP 9: Reset Network Settings
- Open the iPad or iPhone Settings App.
- Select General.
- Select Transfer or Reset [device].
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Reset Network Settings.
WARNING: Performing these steps will reset all network Settings. Passwords will have to be re-entered for all Wi-Fi networks to re-join them.
