To customize waypoint icons within ForeFlight using Google Earth, follow these steps. Only the downloadable version of Google Earth supports icon customization, not the web version.
Customizing All Waypoint Icons with the Same Attributes
STEP 1. Open Google Earth.
STEP 2. Open the KML shape file containing the waypoints.
STEP 3. Right-click on the file name in the "Places" panel on the left side.
STEP 4. Select Get Info from the pop-up menu.
STEP 5. Select Style, Color from the pop-over.
STEP 6. Select Share Style to apply a single style to all waypoints.
STEP 7. In the top-right, click the icon to choose a new icon style.
STEP 8. Select a preferred icon. Not all icons will transfer to ForeFlight. Supported icons are depicted below.
STEP 9. For custom icons, select Add Custom Icon and locate a PNG image with a transparent background.
NOTE: For best results, custom icons should be a PNG image with a transparent background. When using a custom icon, the map layer must be saved as a KMZ file.
STEP 10. Click OK to apply the changes.
Customized icons are now presented.
STEP 11. In the "Places" panel, right-click the file name and select Save Place As.
STEP 12. Save the file as a KML file (or KMZ if a custom icon is used).

Customizing Waypoint Icons with Different Attributes
STEP 1. Open Google Earth.
STEP 2. Open the KML shape file containing the waypoints.
STEP 3. In the "Places" panel, expand the file to show all the waypoints.
STEP 4. From the list, find the waypoint to customize.
STEP 5. Right-click on a waypoint.
STEP 6. Select Get Info. A new window will open.
STEP 7. In the pop-up, click the icon at the top right to select a style.
STEP 8. Choose the desired icon. Not all icons will transfer to ForeFlight. Supported icons are depicted below.
STEP 9. Adjust color, scale, and opacity as desired.
STEP 10. Click OK to save the customization.

STEP 11. Repeat for each waypoint as desired.
STEP 12. Once completed, right-click the file name in Places.
STEP 13. Select Save Place As.
STEP 14. Save the file as a KML file (or KMZ if custom icons are used).
