To file a flight plan with a call sign instead of the aircraft’s tail number in ForeFlight Mobile, there are two methods:

1. Set up the Call Sign in the Aircraft Profile: This method is ideal for users who frequently use the same call sign with the same aircraft. By adding the call sign to the aircraft profile, the callsign will automatically populate in the filing form each time the aircraft is selected.

2. Add a Call Sign to an Individual Flight: This option is best for occasional call sign use. The call sign is added directly to the flight’s filing form without changing the aircraft profile, allowing flexibility without permanent profile adjustments.

Both options allow flexibility depending on how often the call sign is used.

Method 1: Setting up the Call Sign in the Aircraft Profile

Add a call sign to the aircraft profile by doing the following:

STEP 1. Open ForeFlight Mobile.

STEP 2. Go to More > Aircraft.

STEP 3. Select the aircraft to edit.

STEP 4. Tap Tail Number.

STEP 5. Enter the registration number of the aircraft.

STEP 6. Tap Call Sign.

STEP 7. Enter the call sign. The call sign supports seven alpha-numeric characters. 

The callsign setup is now complete. When using the aircraft profile in a flight plan, the call sign will be used, and the aircraft profile’s tail number will be copied to Field 18 (Other Information) of the flight plan form.

 

Previewing the Call Sign in a Flight Plan

To see that the call sign is used in the flight plan form, do the following:

STEP 1. Go to the Flights view.

STEP 2. Tap on the flight for which the filing form will be previewed.

STEP 3. Complete the flight form.

STEP 4. Select Proceed to File.

STEP 5. Select the Send To button in the upper right corner of the File pop-over.

STEP 6. Select the Print option.

STEP 7. Use the expand gesture on the flight plan page preview to expand the image to full size.

STEP 7. Observe that the call sign is used in Field 7 (Aircraft Identification ), and the aircraft registration number is entered as a remark in Field 18 (Other Information).

 

Method 2: Adding a Call Sign for Individual Flights

Add a call sign to a flight plan by doing the following:

STEP 1. Open ForeFlight Mobile.

STEP 2. Go to the Flights view.

STEP 3. Tap on the flight for which a call sign will be added.

STEP 3. Complete the flight form.

STEP 4. Select Proceed to File.

STEP 5. Tap on Call Sign (Optional) to change the entry from the registration number to the call sign that will be used.

STEP 6. Enter the call sign.

STEP 7. Select File when ready to file, or continue through the following steps to see the flight plan form.

STEP 8. Select the Send To button in the upper right corner of the File pop-over.

STEP 6. Select the Print option.

STEP 7. Use the expand gesture on the flight plan page preview to expand the image to full size.

STEP 7. Observe that the call sign is used in Field 7 (Aircraft Identification ), and the aircraft registration number is entered as a remark in Field 18 (Other Information).
