ForeFlight’s Aeronautical Map offers customization options for VFR and IFR operations. Tailoring the map display to the type of flight helps reduce visual clutter and ensures only relevant information is shown. To configure the Aeronautical Map:
STEP 1: Enable the Aeronautical Map Layer
To enable the Aeronautical Map layer,
- Go to the Maps view.
-
Tap the Map Layers dropdown in the upper-left corner.
-
Select Aeronautical from the list of available layers.
STEP 2: Open the Aeronautical Drawer
Tap the Aeronautical Drawer button located on the left side of the Maps view. A sidebar will appear for further customization.
STEP 3: Select the Appropriate Aeronautical Mode
In the Mode selector within the Aeronautical Drawer, choose VFR or IFR based on the type of flying. The selected mode determines the default visibility of altitude-dependent elements like airways and waypoints, and quick-filter settings are saved per mode.
STEP 4: Use Quick-Filters to Customize Map Elements
Use the quick-filter buttons to show (highlighted in blue) or hide (not highlighted) the following map elements:
-
Airports

Airspace

STEP 5: Customize Aeronautical Settings
Tap the ellipsis (…) button at the bottom of the Aeronautical Drawer to access additional settings.
