When a Track Log is automatically recorded using a flight simulator, the starting or ending location may reflect the actual GPS position instead of the simulated location. This occurs if ForeFlight begins recording before receiving simulated GPS data or continues recording after losing simulated GPS data.
Steps to Record a Track Log with Simulated GPS Only
To prevent this undesired behavior, the Track Log should be started and stopped while receiving GPS data from the simulator. Follow the steps below to record a Track Log using only simulated GPS position data.
- Connect the simulator to the iOS device.
- Open ForeFlight and verify the simulated GPS position is displayed.
- Force close ForeFlight.
- Reopen ForeFlight.
- Start a Track Log recording manually or using the auto start/stop function.
- Ensure the Track Log is stopped before disconnecting from the simulator.
Trimming Actual GPS Data from a Track Log
If actual GPS data is recorded at the beginning or end of a Track Log, it can be trimmed as follows:
- Navigate to More > Track Logs in ForeFlight Mobile.
- Select the Track Log.
- Tap Edit near the bottom right corner.
- Drag the blue endpoints to remove the undesired sections.
- Tap Done to save the changes.
