How can ForeFlight be connected to the X-Plane flight simulator?

ForeFlight can be used with X-Plane version 10.11 or newer. To connect ForeFlight to X-Plane, perform the following steps:

STEP 1. Start X-Plane on your computer and start a flight.

NOTE: X-Plane will not show in the More > Devices view of ForeFlight unless an X-Plane flight has been started.

STEP 2. In the X-Plane menu bar, click the Settings button on the far right. The Settings menu will open.

STEP 3. Choose the Network tab.

STEP 4. Click "+" next to iPhone & iPad to expand the menu.

STEP 5. Check the box next to Broadcast to all copies of ForeFlight...

NOTES: If using the Transmit to a single copy of ForeFlight... option, tap the (i) button in ForeFlight under More > Devices to see the iPad's IP address. Enter that IP address in the box on the X-Plane setup screen (127.0.0.1 is not the iPad's IP address. Enter the other address.). Use UDP port 49002 or 49001.

If using FlyThisSim and AHRS data needs to be displayed in ForeFlight, choose the Send GPS data... to ONE iPad... option in X-Plane. Tap the (i) button in ForeFlight under More > Devices to see the iPad's IP address. Enter that IP address in the box on the X-Plane Settings screen (127.0.0.1 is not the iPad's IP address. Enter the other address.). Use UDP port 49002 or 49001.

STEP 6. Open ForeFlight Mobile.

STEP 7. Tap on More > Devices.

STEP 8. Tap on the X-Plane box.

NOTE: When using X-Plane version 11, the flight simulator connection sometimes appears as "1" or "2" instead of "X-Plane."

STEP 9. Slide the switch on next to Enabled.

STEP 10. Go to the Maps page. Once X-Plane is Enabled, accuracy will be reported in the instrument bar as "Accuracy (X-Plane) 1m".

Troubleshooting

Symptom: The position in ForeFlight Mobile is jumping or lagging behind the position in the simulator.

Solution: Turn Location Services off for ForeFlight Mobile in the Apple Settings app under Settings > Privacy > Location Sevices.

IMPORTANT: Remember to re-enable Location Services for ForeFlight Mobile when the simulator session is complete.

Symptom: The GPS position is not showing in ForeFlight Mobile.

Solution: The link to ForeFlight Mobile will not work correctly if an "XAVION OR FLYQ" connection is active to that iPad or iPhone. A symptom of this is seeing "ADS-B instead of "X-Plane" in ForeFlight Mobile under More > Devices. Remove all "XAVION OR FLYQ" connections and any "Control Pad" connections.

If this doesn't work, click the "Reset UDP Ports" button:
