To file a flight plan and operate in Canadian ADS-B-mandated airspace, aircraft profiles must be updated to reflect installed equipment. Nav Canada has outlined the implementation of ADS-B requirements for the following airspace classes:
- Class A: Effective 10 August 2023 (airspace between 18,000 ft and 60,000 ft).
- Class B: Effective 16 May 2024.
- Classes C, D, and E: To be implemented no earlier than 2026.
Updating Aircraft Profiles
To ensure compliance, aircraft profiles in ForeFlight must be updated based on equipage status:
-
For ADS-B Compliant Aircraft
Refer to the article: How do I update my aircraft profile to file flight plans now that I comply with the Canadian ADS-B mandate requirements? -
For Non-Compliant Canadian State Aircraft or Foreign State Aircraft (covered by a Diplomatic Note or Agreement)
Refer to the article: How do I update my aircraft profile to file flight plans as a non-compliant Canadian state aircraft or foreign state aircraft with the Canadian ADS-B mandate requirements?
Requesting Accommodation
Operators of non-compliant aircraft requiring accommodation in ADS-B airspace should see: How do I request an accommodation to operate in Canadian airspace that requires ADS-B as a non-compliant operator?
For more details, review Nav Canada's Aeronautical Information Circular 10/23.
