ForeFlight Mobile provides an extremely large variety of information and capabilities, some of which are available for pilots flying anywhere in the world, and some of which are only available in certain regions.
This article lists the major capabilities of ForeFlight and in what parts of the world they are supported. The major sections are:
- Avionics
- Charts & Data
- Planning and In-Flight Features
- Filing & Briefing
- Weather
--------------------------------------------------
AVIONICS
--------------------------------------------------
GPS
Global
- As long as your device has an internal GPS or you have an external GPS receiver connected to it you will be able to see your location anywhere in the world, assuming your connection is strong enough.
ADS-B Weather & Traffic
U.S. & Territories
- The U.S. is the only country in the world with a large network of ADS-B towers that provide ADS-B traffic and weather services, and this means that ADS-B In capabilities will be most useful in the U.S. Pilots flying with ADS-B In and Out capabilities will receive air-to-air position broadcasts from ADS-B Out equipped aircraft, and will also receive TIS-B traffic broadcasts from nearby ADS-B towers. TIS-B broadcasts show the positions of nearby aircraft that are not equipped with ADS-B Out, but are equipped with a Mode C capable transponder. ADS-B In capabilities will also allow pilots to see FIS-B weather broadcasts from nearby towers. If flying with ADS-B In capabilities but no ADS-B Out, the traffic picture will not be as reliable at all times since traffic broadcasts are only provided for ADS-B Out equipped aircraft.
Global
- For pilots flying outside of the U.S., ADS-B In capabilities are more limited since there are no ADS-B towers that broadcast weather and traffic information. A dual-band or 1090 MHz ADS-B In receiver will allow you to see the position of nearby ADS-B Out equipped aircraft through air-to-air broadcast, but you will not see the positions of any non-ADS-B Out equipped aircraft and you will not receive any weather information. A single-band 978 MHz UAT receiver is unlikely to pick up any traffic information outside the U.S. since 1090 MHz is the international standard for ADS-B Out broadcasts.

CHARTS & DATA

Charts/Plates
Global
- Global enroute and terminal charts are available through Jeppesen and can be added to ForeFlight either by purchasing them as part of your ForeFlight subscription or by linking an existing Jeppesen chart subscription inside ForeFlight. See this page for a list of what coverages are available for purchase through ForeFlight and prices.
U.S. / Canada / Australia
- VFR and IFR High and Low Enroute charts and terminal/aerodrome charts from the FAA, NAV CANADA, and Air Services Australia are available in ForeFlight based on whether you have a U.S., Canada, or Australia subscription.
- Helicopter, IFR planning, and ocean planning charts for the Atlantic and Pacific oceans are also available with a U.S. subscription.
Mexico / Caribbean / Central America / South America
- A U.S. subscription also includes FAA-sourced high and low IFR enroute charts covering Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and the northernmost portion in South America.
Europe
- ForeFlight subscriptions with the Europe region include IFR High and Low Enroute charts, procedure charts and airport daigrams, and AIP documents via EUROCONTROL for supported European countries. Visit this page to see which countries are currently supported.
- A selection of optional VFR add-ons are also available with the Europe region. VFR ICAO charts/maps, VFR procedure charts, and VFR AIP documents are available for a number of countries from different providers, including DFS, CartaBossy, IGN, and others. Jeppesen VFR procedure charts are available as an add-on for most countries in Europe. Visit this page to see which VFR add-ons are currently available.
Airport & Nav Data
Global
- Global airport and navigation data from Jeppesen is available for all customers, whether or not you add Jeppesen charts to your subscription. ForeFlight’s global data-driven Aeronautical Map is powered by this data and is available to customers on “Plus” plans (Basic Plus, Pro Plus, and Performance Plus).
Europe
- ForeFlight subscriptions with the Europe region include Jeppesen's digital VFR navigation data for most of Europe (not including Eastern Europe and the Balkans) built directly into the Aeronautical Map layer. This data includes VFR waypoints, entries and exits, traffic circuits, no-overfly areas, and more. Visit this page to see a map of which countries have digital VFR data from Jeppesen.
--------------------------------------------------
PLANNING & IN-FLIGHT FEATURES
--------------------------------------------------
Procedure Advisor
Global
- Global terminal procedure data from Jeppesen, including departure, arrival, and approach procedures, are available for all customers through Procedure Advisor.
Route Advisor
Global
- ForeFlight’s recommended routes provides wind- and temperature-optimized routes between any two airports in the world. It is available as part of the Performance Plus, Business Performance, and MFB Performance subscription plans.
Europe
- ForeFlight provides suggested routes from EUROCONTROL when planning a flight between European airports. ForeFlight will also evaluate any route that intersects EUROCONTROL airspace to determine if it satisfies their complex system of route constraints and will display a “EUROCONTROL Valid” message in green or a “EUROCONTROL Invalid” message in red. When used in Europe, ForeFlight's Recommended Route will also take EUROCONTROL constraints into consideration so it can provide a valid route.
U.S. / Canada
- ForeFlight provides recently cleared routes from ATC and NAV CANADA, as well as Preferred, TEC, and airway routes.
Terrain
Global
- Two types of global terrain can be downloaded in ForeFlight: low resolution and high resolution. The low-resolution terrain is a single download listed as “Worldwide Terrain” under the Required Downloads section. High-resolution terrain can optionally be downloaded for different geographies by enabling the “High Resolution Terrain” switch in any of the four Download Settings menus at the top of the Downloads view.
Obstacles
Global
- Global obstacles are available for all customers as a single download named “Worldwide Obstacles” under the Required Downloads section.
Hazard Advisor, Profile View, Synthetic Vision
Global
- These three terrain awareness capabilities all rely on downloaded terrain data. Hazard Advisor and Profile View will work with the global low-resolution terrain data, though using the high-resolution terrain will result in higher-resolution depictions. Synthetic Vision requires high-resolution terrain data for whatever region you’re in. All three capabilities are available with the Pro Plus and Performance Plus plans.
Glide Advisor
Global
- Glide Advisor uses a combination of terrain data (low- or high-resolution) and GPS data to draw a glide range ring around your aircraft, and will also incorporate forecast winds aloft if available. Since all of those pieces of information are available globally and for every plan level, Glide Advisor can be used anywhere in the world.

Briefing
Global
- ForeFlight provides briefing capabilities for flights between any two airports in the world. There are two types of ForeFlight briefings:
- Graphical (HTML): If your flight is entirely within the United States (and territories), you can choose to receive a Graphical (HTML) Briefing, which structures the major briefing sections in an easy-to-use graphical and plain-text format. Or, you can elect to receive a Graphical (PDF) Briefing described below.
- Graphical (PDF): If part or all of your flight is outside the US, you will receive a Graphical (PDF) Briefing by default. This provides most of the information found in a more traditional text-based format but includes graphics depicting significant weather along your route, winds aloft, and a vertical cross-section of your route.
