If performance calculations consistently do not match what is achieved in flight operations, performance model adjustments can be made to improve the accuracy of flight planning results. This article describes how to adjust items like time or fuel burn during the climb, cruise, or descent phases of flight.
Performance profiles listed in an aircraft profile.
IMPORTANT: The steps in this article apply to single pilot account users. For multi-pilot accounts, the administrator must adjust aircraft on ForeFlight on the Web under the Aircraft tab. Select an aircraft to edit, and in the Performance section, select the Adjust button next to a performance profile. Define the bias and then select Apply.
Climb Model Adjustments
Climb performance models can be adjusted by a fixed time or fuel amount. Climb bias corrections are applied from the departure airport to the top of climb (TOC). To adjust climb biases, follow these steps:
- Open ForeFlight Mobile.
- Go to More > Aircraft.
- Select the aircraft to edit.
- In the Performance section, tap on Performance Profiles.
- Select an item to edit in the Climb section.
- Enter a positive or negative value to adjust time or fuel burn during the climb.
- Select Apply Bias to All Climb Profiles.
Cruise Model Adjustments
Cruise model adjustments are specified with a percentage. For example, if ForeFlight consistently calculates an estimated time en route 10% more than the actual results, a +10% bias can be applied to the model. To adjust cruise bias settings, follow these steps:
- Open ForeFlight Mobile.
- Go to More > Aircraft.
- Select the aircraft to edit.
- In the Performance section, tap on Performance Profiles.
- Select an item to edit in the Cruise section.
- Enter a positive or negative percentage to adjust time or fuel burn during cruise.
- Select Apply Bias to All Descent Profiles.
NOTES:
- Mach-based performance profiles do not offer cruise bias sliders.
- A positive bias increases the planned true airspeed or fuel burn.
- A negative bias reduces the planned true airspeed or fuel burn.
Descent Model Adjustments
Descent performance models can be adjusted by a fixed time or fuel amount. Descent bias corrections are applied from the top of descent (TOD) to the destination airport. To adjust descent biases, follow these steps:
- Open ForeFlight Mobile.
- Go to More > Aircraft.
- Select the aircraft to edit.
- In the Performance section, tap on Performance Profiles.
- Select an item to edit in the Descent section.
- Enter a positive or negative value to adjust time or fuel burn during the descent.
- Select Apply Bias to All Descent Profiles.
