When a traffic target is tapped while using an ADS-B receiver to receive traffic data, the description may include the frequency band (978 or 1090ES) and one of the following labels: ADS-B, ADS-R, or TIS-B. These labels indicate how the traffic information was received:
-
ADS-B (Air-to-Air Broadcast): Information is directly received from an ADS-B Out-equipped aircraft via an air-to-air broadcast.
-
ADS-R (ADS-B Rebroadcast): The ground station rebroadcasts ADS-B messages it receives on one ADS-B frequency to the other ADS-B frequency. This service is provided to client aircraft lacking a dual-frequency receiver.
-
TIS-B (Traffic Information Service – Broadcast): Information is transmitted from a ground station about non-ADS-B Out-equipped targets detected by secondary radar systems. These targets must have an active mode C transponder. TIS-B services are available only to ADS-B Out-equipped client aircraft.
These labels clarify the source of the traffic data displayed.
