The FAA retired its Aviation Area Forecast in 2016. ForeFlight replaced the Area Forecast and Graphical Aviation Forecast images with two new images:
- Cloud Coverage: Displays forecasted cloud cover for the area.
- Vis, Sfc Winds & Precip: Shows visibility, surface winds, and precipitation forecasts.
To view these images in ForeFlight Mobile, follow these steps:
Set the Briefing Format
To set the briefing format to view the images in a briefing, do the following:
- Open ForeFlight Mobile.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll to the Flights section.
- Tap Briefing Format.
- Select Graphical (HTML).
Create a Briefing from a Flight Plan
The images are accessed in a briefing. To create a flight and a briefing, do the following,
- Open ForeFlight Mobile.
- Go to Flights.
- Create a flight plan over the United States.
- Tap the Briefing button at the top of the flight.
Access Forecast Images
To view the images in a briefing, do the following,
- From within the Graphical (HTML) Briefing sidebar, tap Forecasts.
- Tap on either Cloud Coverage or Vis, Sfc Winds & Precip. These images replace the FAA’s former Aviation Area Forecast and provide similar insights for planning over the U.S.
