Planning a flight on the Flights view begins with the General Information section. This is where you can input your departure, destination, date and time for the estimated time of departure (ETD) or estimated time of arrival (ETA), Callsign (if required), and alternate airports.
Scroll down in the list, or type the aircraft registration or type to find the desired aircraft, then click to select. Performance data and operational rules for the aircraft chosen in this field will be used to calculate the flight plan.
The departure and destination airports can be entered in this field by typing their respective ICAO codes. Alternatively a city name can be entered and the desired airport can then be selected from the drop down menu.
Departure/Destination/Alternate Airport "Info" box - Click to open a new tab showing available information about the airport.
3. Date & Time
Date: Text entry or Calendar pop-up. Click ETD or ETA as needed.
Time: Text entry; click Zulu or Local (determined based departure airport) as needed.
A Callsign can be entered as needed. For example if "N123ER" is on an ambulatory enter the callsign "LN123ER"
Primary & Secondary Alternates - The primary alternate based on destination airport. Click the field to display a drop-down box offering nearby airports in ascending distance from the destination. Only airports with an instrument approach are displayed. Or enter the ICAO code for your desired Alternate, or type a city name can be and select the desired airport from the drop down menu.
TO Alternate - If the weather at the departure airport is below legal minimums a takeoff alternate is required for Part 135 and 121 operations. Flights under 14 CFR 91 does not require a takeoff alternate.
Alternate Routing - The default routing to the primary alternate airport is Direct (DCT) but you can choose an auto-generated or manually-entered route instead. The required altitude for the alternate route can also be entered.
