ForeFlight’s Pack feature only saves satellite imagery for airports listed in the route. To save Airport 3D View for additional airports, use one of these methods:
Option 1: Pack Additional Airports from the FPL Editor
This method ensures offline access to satellite imagery for additional airports by temporarily adding them to the route.
Steps:
1. Construct the Intended Route: On the Maps view, create the desired flight plan in the FPL editor. This step will save the route to the Recent Routes list (accessible via the star-and-clock icon).
2. Clear the Original Route: Tap the Clear button in the FPL editor to remove the current route.
3. Add Additional Airports: Use the FPL editor to create a temporary route containing the airports that will be viewed in Airport 3D.
4. Pack the Route: Tap the Pack button (suitcase icon) in the FPL editor to save the satellite imagery for the additional airports.
5. Restore the Original Route: Tap the Recents button to select and restore the original flight route.
6. Pack the Original Route: Tap the Pack button again to save imagery for airports in the original route.
Option 2: View Additional Airports Before Flight
This method involves pre-loading satellite imagery by viewing the Airport 3D View for each additional airport before the flight.
Steps:
1. Pack: Pack the intended flight route.
2. View Additional Airport 3D Imagery: Open the Airport 3D View for each additional airport. This action will store imagery for those airports in the app’s temporary cache.
- Cache Limitations: ForeFlight stores data for approximately 20–25 airports in its temporary cache. Once the limit is exceeded, older data will be deleted.
- Recommended Method: Use the first method to ensure Airport 3D View is available for all desired airports. This method reliably stores data for offline access.
