Aircraft manufacturers often account for moveable parts when determining an aircraft's loading envelope. It is not necessary to take action for retracted gear in these scenarios.
Aircraft that do not account for gear retraction in the envelope often provide information related to how the movement affects the aircraft's CG. For example, Moment increase with landing gear retracted 965.0 in lb.
To account for these scenarios, enter the aircraft's Gear Retraction Moment Change in the aircraft profile. NOTE: ForeFlight Mobile version 15.3 or later required.
To enter a gear retraction moment change, follow the steps below:
- Open the Aircraft view and tap the appropriate aircraft.
- Scroll to the Weight and Balance section and tap the weight and balance profile.
- Scroll to the bottom of the view and enter the appropriate value in the Gear Retraction Moment Change field.
Gear Retraction Moment Change Setting
As depicted below, when calculating weight and balance for an aircraft that has a gear retraction moment change value entered, the CG will shift slightly just after takeoff and before landing.
