Stratus is equipped with an internal antenna that provides good reception in most aircraft, allowing for "wire-free" operation without a remote or external antenna.
However, some aircraft may require a remote antenna due to signal attenuation caused by the aircraft's structure. A remote antenna can also allow the Stratus to be placed in a more convenient location while maintaining strong ADS-B and GPS reception.
Options for remote antennas include:
- Sporty's Remote Antennas: Remote ADS-B and GPS antennas compatible with the Stratus 1S, 2, and 2S. (The Stratus 1 supports only a remote GPS antenna.)
- Repurposed DME Antenna: An avionics shop may adopt an unused DME antenna on the aircraft's belly for use as an external ADS-B antenna.
- Bottom-Mounted TED Antenna: A dedicated antenna, such as a TED type, can be installed for optimal reception.
For most users, the internal antenna will suffice, but these options are available for specific needs or challenging reception conditions.
