How do I create and email crash logs to ForeFlight support?

Crash logs are created whenever an iPhone or iPad application suddenly quits working. These logs are helpful to our team when trying to find the cause of a crash.   Here is how to get crash logs to us:

Section A: Mac Users

1.  Sync your iPad or iPhone with iTunes 

If you are not familiar with how to do this, here is a link to Apple's instructions how how to sync to iTunes:

2.  Find the Crash Logs 

A. Open FINDER

B. Select GO and then GO TO FOLDER from the menu 

 

C. Enter or copy and paste the following address into the GO TO THE FOLDER dialog box:      

          ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice  

D. Tap on the button

E. Tap on the folder with your device's name. (Example:  John's iPad") 

3. Copy the Crashlogs

A. Select the Crash Logs with the file name (if you don't see the crash logs, click into the folder named "Retired"):  ForeFlight_<Date_Time>_<Device Name>.crash 

 

B. Right Click on the files you are going to send and select COPY

C. Go to your Desktop and select PASTE

4. Email the Files to Us

A. Right click on the files you pasted to your Desktop and select COMPRESS.  A zip file will be created.   

 B. Attach the zip file in an email back to us and we can then get with the appropriate developer to troubleshoot further.

Section B: PC/Windows Users

1.  Sync your iPad or iPhone with iTunes

2.  Find the Crash Logs

A. Open Windows Explorer

B. Enter the following into the address bar:  %APPDATA%  

 

C. Press the ENTER key

D. Navigate to APPLE COMPUTER > LOGS > CRASHREPORTER > MOBILE DEVICE > <DEVICE NAME> (for example:  John's iPad")

3. Copy the Crashlogs

A. Select the Crash Logs with the file name:  ForeFlight_<Date_Time>_<Device Name>.crash 

 

B. Right Click on the files you are going to send and select COPY

C. Go to your Desktop and select PASTE

4. Email the Files to Us

A. Right click on the files you pasted to the desktop and select SEND TO > COMPRESSED (ZIPPED) FOLDER. A zip file will be created.   

 

B. Attach the zip file in an email back to us and we can then get with the appropriate developer to troubleshoot further.
