Flight time logged to meet the FAA Instrument Airplane requirements under FAR Part §61.65(d) should be logged as follows:
Total PIC Cross-Country
- Log 50+ hours Pilot In Command (PIC).
- Log Cross Country and Total Time hours in conjunction with PIC.
- Ensure the selected aircraft for the entries has a category/class.
Total PIC Cross-Country in Airplane
- Log 10+ hours Pilot In Command (PIC).
- Log Cross Country and Total Time hours in conjunction with PIC.
- Ensure the selected aircraft for the entries has a class of ASEL, ASES, AMEL, or AMES.
Actual or Simulated Instrument
- Log 40+ hours Actual or Simulated Instrument.
- Log Total Time hours in conjunction with the above.
- Ensure the selected aircraft for the entries has a class of ASEL, ASES, AMEL, or AMES.
15 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight training
- Log 15+ hours Actual or Simulated Instrument.
- Log 15+ hours Dual Received (training).
- Log Total Time hours in conjunction with the above.
- Ensure the selected aircraft for the entries has a class of ASEL, ASES, AMEL, or AMES.
3 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight training in an airplane in the last 2 calendar months
- Log 3+ hours Total Time.
- Log 3+ hours Actual or Simulated Instrument.
- Log 3+ hours Dual Received (training).
- Ensure the selected aircraft for the entries has a class of ASEL, ASES, AMEL, or AMES.
- Ensure the entry date is within the past 2 calendar months.
One 250nm instrument cross-country airplane training flight
- Log the flight as a single entry.
- Log Total Time and Cross Country hours.
- Log Actual or Simulated Instrument hours.
- Log Dual Received (training).
- Log 3 different approaches (eg. ILS, RNAV, VOR).
- Ensure the selected aircraft for the entry has a class of ASEL, ASES, AMEL, or AMES.
